Here’s a powerful icebreaker that can help activate the willingness to forgive:

*”The Bridge of Forgiveness” Exercise*

Imagine you’re standing on one side of a river, and on the other side, there’s a person you’ve been struggling to forgive. Now, imagine a bridge connecting the two sides. This bridge represents forgiveness.

Take a few moments to reflect on the person and the situation that’s been causing you pain. As you do this, ask yourself:

What would it take for me to start building this bridge of forgiveness?

Would it be a sincere apology from the other person?

Would it be a change in their behaviour?

Would it be something within yourself that needs to shift?

As you consider these questions, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, imagine yourself taking the first step onto the bridge. With each subsequent breath, imagine yourself moving further along the bridge, letting go of a little more resentment, anger, or hurt with each step.

Remember, forgiveness is a process, and it may take time. But by starting to build this bridge, you’re taking the first steps towards healing and freeing yourself from the burden of unforgiveness.
